FAQ

Do you buy gold, jewelry or gemstones from customers?
We offer gold scrap value for store credit.  We send it to a refiner and pay you 70% of current spot.  This is because we send gold in every few months so we have a large amount & can get the best rates.  Since the gold market fluctuates, we have a buffer.
Store credit can be used to pay for purchases or any of our services. 
We do not purchase finished jewelry (for more than scrap value) or gemstones.

To receive cash, we highly recommend Ron at Mid State Precious Metals in Atascadero.

Do you repair watches & clocks?
We change watch batteries & we do watch band adjustments.
If you have a watch that needs servicing or cleaning or technical repair, we highly recommend Once Upon a Tyme in Cambria. 

How long should my newly-installed watch battery last?
All watch batteries that are purchased from & installed at K.Jons are guaranteed for 1 year.  They will generally last longer, but if the battery goes bad within 1 year, we will change it for no additional charge.

Do you do ring sizing, repairs & restorations?
Absolutely!  We have in-house jewelers and a full workshop on site. We have a full-time Master Jeweler, plus and a part-time Jeweler both with over 40 years of professional experience.  From ring sizings, to all manner of jewelry repairs, antique & vintage jewelry restoration, hand-fabrication, hand-engraving, custom manufacturing, & more, our jewelers are expert artisans.

Can I get an estimate for a ring sizing or repair over the phone?
There are too many microscopic elements that must be assessed before an estimate can be made. Many rings & other jewels simply cannot be resized based on their design &/or gemstones.  To arrive at an estimate, we need to examine all gemstones & the integrity of their settings; determine if & how many accent stones may be affected by sizing; take numerous measurements of the item; determine how much gold or platinum is needed, how much labor will be involved; and the list goes on!
Your precious jewels are small & require meticulous attention to detail, therefore it is best to bring your item in for a no obligation quote.  We encourage you to price shop our repair services so you feel confident you came to the right place!

How long do repairs typically take?
Typically repairs are completed within 4-6 weeks.  All repairs are done in house in the order in which they were received.  In a pinch?  We offer rush services for an additional charge.

Can I request to work with a particular K.Jons designer?
Yes you may! Your designer of choice may need to confirm their availability. Please call K.Jons to inquire. Click here to meet our team.

Can you source a specific gemstone for me?
Yes we can! We always have diamonds & gemstones on hand, as owner Greg Chatham was a gemstone dealer prior to his time with K.Jons. We also attend the world's largest & most spectacular gem & jewelry shows each year, where we spend a considerable amount of time shopping for customers' special requests. We have also built a network of professional industry contacts, including friends & colleagues all over the world, who deal in every kind of gemstone & diamond. Whether you are looking to replace a lost gemstone or you are interested in having a brand new custom design created, we have the extensive resources and gemological knowledge to find what you are looking for. And all of our stones are competitively priced, even with the internet. We shop for gemstones for you the way we shop for them for ourselves... the absolute best for the lowest possible price!

Do you offer layaway?
Yes! We require 1/3 of the total as a down payment, then the remaining balance is divided into 3 equal payments, due every 30 days.  Until your final payment, the item will remain at K.Jons. The deposits are non-refundable, & if you miss a payment, your deposit will be placed on your in-store credit account, & the item will be put back out for sale. 

What is your return policy?
You may return an item 2 weeks from the date of purchase, less credit card fees if applicable.  There are no returns on custom items or special orders, but we work hard to ensure you are satisfied with your design every step of the way!

Do you offer a warranty policy for jewelry purchased at K.Jons?
Absolutely! Firstly, we have an incredibly strict quality control process & we will not let a piece of jewelry go out the door if it does not meet our standards. Secondly, there are two categories of warranty.  The first category is the warranty for the "Manufacturing." The manufacturing is guaranteed for the life of your item.  This would include things like microscopic porosity in the metal, as a result of poor casting, or anything internal that affects the integrity of the item, that we are unable to see during our quality control process. The second category is "Regular Wear & Tear." This would included anything that has happened as a result of wearing the item, like loose stones, broken prongs, missing accent stones, etc.  As a courtesy, K.Jons will fix any regular wear & tear issues within the first year of purchase. This includes missing accent stones, up to 2.5mm.  This does not include stones over 2.5mm, nor does it include center stones. Please insure your jewelry to cover these larger stones. How do I insure my precious jewelry?
There are a variety of avenues that people take to insure their fine jewelry. Many people opt to insure through their homeowner's insurance policy, which may be the best option for you. We highly recommend Jeweler's Mutual Insurance because, in the event of a loss or damage, they allow you to choose your own trusted jeweler, whereas some homeowner's policies require you to go to a jeweler with whom they have a contract. Knowing that your jewels are in safe, expert hands is critically important to us & we know it is for our customers as well.

Do you offer appraisals?
We do! Our appraiser is a GIA Graduate Gemologist, Certified Member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers.  We offer a full range of appraisal options that can be found here

Do you engrave jewelry and other objects?
Yes we do! We offer hand-engraving, such as western scroll & other designs, by our Master Jeweler.  We also offer machine engraving, as well as state-of-the-art laser engraving.  We can engrave finger prints, messages in your own hand-writing, or anything you can imagine!  Machine engraving typically starts at $125.  Hand-engraving starts at $250 per hour. Quotes depend on the complexity of the project.

I have a crystal or faceted gemstone, but I don't know what it is.  Can K.Jons identify it for me?
Yes we can! With two GIA Graduate Gemologists on staff, we have the knowledge and gemological laboratory equipment necessary to complete a Stone ID according to GIA standards.

Are you affiliated with Kay Jewelers?
We get this question often.  We are not affiliated with Kay Jewelers in any way. We have always been an independent family owned and operated jewelry store, and have served this community for 45 years. We are a Fine Jewelry store & we specialize in exceptional gemstones & jewelry of the highest quality.
Our store is named after Kay and Jon Sherwin, the parents of the original K.Jons owners.
